description A sweet and steamy New Adult Romance from Amazon bestselling author of the Ruthless People series, J.J. McAvoy…
After an erotic one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again. Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that her former lover is not only her professor, but he’s also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.

With everyone in class vying to be one of the twelve disciples—a group of twelve students that Professor Black takes under his wing—tensions run high. Thea considers dropping his class, given their passionate week together and their undeniable chemistry. After all, there are other (less infuriatingly sexy) law professors on campus.

But to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best—and that’s Levi Black.

But can she learn under the best, without being under the best?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

At the end of American Savage, when I've seen J.J McAvoy planed a new release and that it was different from her trilogy, I knew I would want to read her book.

For me, I find it extremely interesting when an author is able to write about different genre, different universe and still manage to succeed.

When I learnt Black Rainbow would be about a teacher/student relation, I was more than thrilled because I've never read this genre before.
So where do I start to make everyone add this book and make everyone read the book?

Fore sure, Black Rainbow is so much more than a simple forbidden relation. IMO it wasn't really the main focus. It wasn't even the central point of it all.

"A penny for your thoughts?"
"Only a penny, Mr Black? What type of girl do you think I am?"

Levi and Thea meet in a bar and decide to spend the night together.
Even if they don't mean to last, both of them don't want to leave in the morning so they choose to have a full week of pleasure

After that week, Thea has to start school and Levi has to go back to his work. He is a lawyer but he is also a teacher at University.
Both of them are shocked when they realize their encounter would be in other circumstances.

The first part in the book is told between past, during their week together, and present, when they are in class.
I thought the interaction between past and present where brilliantly done. This gives you the opportunity to see and understand why both of them are so caught of guard.

Levi Black is a fucking good lawyer. In fact he is the best. He has never lost a case. He is cold, rigorous and if you want to work with him, you have to be damn good yourself!

" To students, he was El Diablo, but in Law circles, he was called The Cleaner"

"There were people who are moved by the world, and then there were people who moved the world. Levi Black was the latter of the two"

Thea is a smart woman with a lot of secrets she is trying to hide as much as she can. She has one focus: become a great lawyer, and for that she needs Levi Black.

"Thea Cunning was a true woman, and like a true woman, she was an enigma wrapped up in a mystery"

I don't want to tell much more about the plot or the twist because as for every good story, the reader has to discover it for himself.

I've always liked book with lawyers (I have practically read all the John Grisham books) so I was glad the author didn't stick to the classroom but took her story in a real firm, with cases to deal with.

Even if they may not be realistic, it was a pleasure to see THE Levi Black gives advice. It made me want to re-read some books in the genre.
As for Thea and Levi together, I've loved how both are so vulnerable when they are apart and together.

"When will you realize that what your heart says, and what your mouth says are two entirely different things?"

It needs strength to stay apart when you feel that everything pulls you together.
It requires willpower to try to the right thing and stay focus.

There were moments where I felt my heart beat so much and so fast. I don't say there's a lot of angst but J.J.McAvoy sure knows how to make you doubt.

Black Rainbow is a beautiful love story between two people who meet and connect before their wold comes crashing down their little bubble.

It's a story where Thea and Levi will have to fight to find a way to be together. They will have to learn that sometimes in life, past and present may collide in strange ways and still bring out the best

"Star light, star bright, the many stars I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, keep this girl for the rest of my life"
