Review: Coast by Jay McLean

COAST (Kick Push 2) – by Jay McLean
Series: The Road #3, Kick Push #2
 Release Date: June 7, 2016

descriptionOne life-changing summer.
One boy.
The boy.
The boy who offered me safe touches and heart-stopping smiles - smiles he shared with his son.
We filled our days with porch-step kisses, filled our ears with laughter, filled our hearts with love.
Deep, soul-aching, desperate love.
But love is misleading.
It's an invisible, fleeting moment. Somewhere between false adoration and pure hatred comes an emotion, a vulnerable need, a single desire. It lives within the ones who miss it, who crave it, who know better than to expect it.
Love is relentless.
Even when that love turns to hate, turns to loathing, turns to pain.
Love should heal you.
But it can also break you.
Believe me, I know...
Because I'm Becca Owens - a broken girl... ...
And he's Josh Warden - the boy who broke me.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
5++++ Firetrucking Coasting Stars

Oh boy this book is EVERYTHING everything… I fell in love with these characters back in Kick Push last year and have been waiting for months for this. I can also tell you I was nervous about this book because at the end of Kick Push I was left somewhat exhausted, all for the right reasons…

But this story gripped me from the beginning and was everything I wanted and needed this read to be.

Minor Spoilers for Kick Push but not many, just want to clarify I need to skim parts to review this book.

So what’s it about?
I’ll tell you know this book is Becca’s story seriously this girl learnt how to live, breathe and be herself. She held her head high and truly breathed. When I started this story although at moments were heartbreakingly beautiful her strength shone through, and I could see what a unique character and strong girl she was. Let’s say this though, to begin with she’s still living with that pain, missing her soul Josh and her best buddy Tommy. Yet here she was living with her dad, making friends, studying, writing and going too all her therapies that were helping herself. She was making a LIFE for HER, BREATHING.

Josh is being a Dad, and also travelling the world, skating and going through the motions… He is living but maybe not Coasting and truly breathing. And then Becca starts to tackle her fears and see Josh again, interview him and so things develop and they start again.

My thoughts
This is a slow built story about a girl who has had a neglectful and abusive upbringing so she grows up in this story, seriously she truly comes out of herself. No longer do you see the timid young quiet girl but a Woman a woman that is the heart of both Josh and Tommy’s souls. Unity is what this book is about, family and friendships.

I will also say some topics in this story hit home to me and so it was more of an emotional love story for me. But not always in the sense of two people who are meant to be together. But about a FAMILY a beautiful loving and STRONG family. About friendships and mmm I sobbed into the wee hours of last night because of happiness, elation, unity and because of a Dad and a Son. Also because a girl made a life for herself and became the Heart and soul of her family.

I will truly never forget this read and I will absolutely read Jays books again.
This is the follow up to Kick, Push and needs to be read after that.

Enjoy, Hugs Xoxo
