Throwback Thursday: Him & Us by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend...and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

4.5 "Purple Skittles" STARS

Well this was my first full-on foray into M/M. I’d dabbled before with other stories where it was a side story and had liked it. Now I get the allure…there's something that's almost naughty or sinful about it in a delightfully delicious way! And it's scorching HOT!!

I’m a big fan of Elle Kennedy, found and fell for her with her Off Campus series, and have never read a Sarina Bowen book before – I’ll be rectifying that STAT. This was a really great, fast, sexy read and the writing style was easy, engaging and seamless; would never have guessed it was co-authored.

We have two hot college hockey players, Jamie Canning and Ryan Wesley (aka Wes), who were best friends throughout their high school years at Hockey summer camp. But they haven't spoken to each other for four years because of what happened their last night together and now they must face each other.

Wes has loved Jamie since he was 13 and while he knows they can't have more because Jamie is straight, Wes misses his friend and wants to make amends.

"Canning can't give me what I want, but I still can't stop myself from wanting it. I want whatever I can get - a conversation, a joke gift, a smile, anything. I might not be able to have the steak, but fuck I, I'm fine with some scraps."

The story moves quickly as these two reconnect, work through their past and also come to realize a few things about each other. While there was a lot of sweet and hot sex scenes,...

there wasn't a lot of angst or drama. There was one little blip but it didn't last for long. I'm not all for dramas sake but would have wanted a bit more of a struggle.

Needless to day, this was a great read and would recommend those who love M/M or either of these authors, or for that matter, if you're feeling adventurous and want to try something new, I say go for it!!

Now that the cherry's been popped...

I'll be looking to expand my horizons and am open to suggestions!!

4.5 SEXY accepting Loving Stars****

I love M/M it's a favourite Genre of mine. Depending on the read that is and mix that with Friends to lover and Sports Romance... Tick. Tick. Tick we get a really enjoyable read that had me unable to put this book down.

Wes 'Ryan' has been in love with Jamie since he was 13. But after a night of pushing those boundaries and crossing that line Wes felt he pushed Jamie too far and ran for four years.
That is until their paths cross and Jamie decides he's going to find out how things pan out and go Lake Placid for 6 weeks of summer camp. He gets 6 weeks to spend time with his old best friend because frankly he misses him, and although Wes may feel guilty Jamie most definitely doesn't want him to feel like that. He wanted that path for himself and not because he was pushed into it.

They are both drafted to work in the NFL after their 6 weeks which is approaching fast at other sides of the pond. So although this is a romance there is also an amount of where their future is leading Independently. What and where they want to be and yes that includes each other and how they fit into each others lives or not?

This book is about acceptance and Best Buds falling for their other half...

It was Sexy, HOT and Intimate......

Wes is easy going and takes things in his stride yet he also keeps a lot close to his chest because of the family he was brought into. There is a good amount of finding ones self IMO in this GORGEOUS read. I LOVED Ryan he was my kind of guy he really loves easily, yet I suppose he is unable to accept what is in front of him or more like be upfront about his feelings. He though doesn't know how to put himself on the line because he doesn't want to hurt himself nor Jamie.

Jamie is the straight one yet is he?. Jamie has a very accepting and loving family and that speaks wonders about the kind of person he is and he WANTS Wes and not only for the summer but for the long haul.

What I loved
I loved the writing style, I haven't read anything by either of these authors. Yeh I really need to read the DEAL 'especially'. I'm kicking my ASS right now for not doing this sooner, because I sure as hell Loved this gradual journey of acceptance, LOVE, SEXYNESS 'oh my' it had it all Friendship!!!

Friends to lovers as I say is a favourite read of mine because there's that connection you feel instantly. You get the FEELS and I most definitely FELT while reading this...

Top Recommendation from Katy if you love M/M, friends to lovers and sports sexy romances. Then this is your up-next read.

Our mouths fit together so perfectly. Every time we kiss, I fall even more in love with him, and it has nothing to do with sex or lust. It's him. His closeness and his scent and the way he soothes me.

Can your favorite hockey players finish their first season together undefeated?

Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He’s living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves—Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There’s just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.

Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It’s not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn’t help that his new job isn’t going as smoothly as he’d hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.

Or can they?

When Wes’s nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?

Warning: contains sexual situations, a vibrating chair, long-distance sexytimes and proof that hockey players look hot in any shade of green

4.5 Wes & Jamie STARS
“Love is friendship set on fire.”

I fell hard for both Wes and Jamie in Him and anxiously awaited this release. I'll start off be saying this one is completely different from the first book. And you know what? That’s one of the things I really liked about this. I totally thought that it should be.

Us is about the relationship phase. It made sense to me for these two to have to learn to navigate being a couple like all couples do but then they also had the added pressures of Wes’s high profile NHL hockey career and the timing of when he’d come out with being gay.

Us deals with the reality of being in a relationship, it’s not all roses, sunshine and out of this world sex. One frustrating part was their lack of communication. I'm a "to the point" person so this was hard for me but I also know that unfortunately it's easy for couples to fall into the non-communication trap. And usually it only takes one to lead the way and the other will follow. Especially if it's driven by fear. Both Wes and Jamie were afraid of having their fears come true if they actually voiced them then they'd have to face the white elephant in the room.

What I simply adored was the connection and love that Wes and Jamie have for each other.

No matter what crap was going on, it was obvious that neither wanted to play games and that their intentions, even misguided, were coming from a place of love.

And yes, the sex and chemistry between these two was as a hot as ever. Their passion and intense sexual attraction was just enthralling and kept this girl happy!

I enjoyed this as much as the first one and got the ending I wanted. If you've never tried M/M or haven't read this duet, you must! Wes and Jamie...
