Throwback Thursday: The Hook-up by Kristen Callihan

Librarian's Note: this is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00NENSBAQ

The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all... No falling in love

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy right?

Too bad he's committed to making her break every rule...

Football has been good to Drew. It's given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there's one problem: she's shut him down. Completely.

That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it's up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she's truly hooked. It's a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

5 Blow me Away Stars*****

Wow just wow, I read a lot of erotica and to be honest its not always out of choice but you know I kind of end up falling into those reads which I love but recently I was in the need to a NA college romance/Sports Romance I mean this is one of my go to reads when I want to go back to college to remember KWIM?? I'm a 34 wife/mum so its not something I read all the time just occasionally saying that, please don't judge this book by its cover which I kind of of did a few months back when I first cast my eyes on it but hey I was in the need of a sports romance themed story and bam here I am blown away by this book, the words and thoughts of these characters were just so mature I honestly was hooked from page one.

Anyway I digress...

drews Mum once told him that...

Life, She insisted, is how you live it and who you live it with, not what you do to make a living.

"You'll see, Drew. One day, Love will creep up and smack you upside the head. Then you'll understand."

You see Drew is a football player he is the main one, the one everyone wants to see the 'ONE' everyone wants. But hey that doesn't mean he's happy, then one day he see's one girl this girl namely Anna Jones is then ALL he see's but she's a nothing in her eyes, a small fish in a big pond concerning Drew in her eyes. Here we have two people who are moving forward in their lives but not necessarily enjoying what they have cause they have a big whole to fill.

Drew has his team and he's happy he works extremely hard, he trains he plays and he studies but he doesn't drink and he watches out for his boys so when his eyes meet Anna HE WANTS HER FOR HIM.

You know there's that moment when you need and want its definitely the case for Drew the only thing is Anna rebels and may want him back but won't admit it so there are rules and they go like this:

no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love.

So can Drew break that rule and turn Anna around to his thinking??

Anna Jones doesn't know what she wants to do with her life she's at college and all but the only thing she would like is to be in New York, She lives with her friend and enjoys her little life of contentment studying, working but after a not great break up in her past she doesn't do relationships she doesn't want the feelings that go with it nor has she been out recently that is until her friends get her out where she bumps into Drew and where they start their Hook Up now I'm not going to tell you much more about the story just lets say emotions obviously get involved and its time to take a chance when you just know right??

My thoughts
Here I am sitting trying the fathom the right words to express how much joy this book gave me, its has the sweet romance and getting to know you feel and then there's the whole I NEED YOU NOW feel, friendship, love and sex its all there, there chemisty was off the charts and majority of this read I was panting in my seat and wondering whats going to happen next I never got bored of it too, really this NA was not inappropriate or unrealistic the maturity of the story gripped me and I was thinking about it throughout the day which to means a good story to me.

I loved how it was a gradual process I say mature again cause this really is a LOVE STORY TO ITS CORE

I was asked yesterday if this story was generic and I suppose yes it is but please don't let that put you off, I enjoyed it for what it is don't expect lots of plot twists but if your in the mood then please grab it.

To Sum Up
The author did a great job at building the tension at the beginning and making me smile at the end Job well done Kristen I'll be awaiting for Grays book coming next.....

Read it, that is all.....

5 Baylor and Jones STARS

WOW, this one crept up on me and blew me away. I’m always antsy about new adult because the stories can be so repetitive, over the top or just plain boring. Not this one.
In fact, while some of the circumstances were completely different, at times, I felt like I was reading about one of my past relationships.

Drew Baylor is the star Quarterback and all around magnet that everyone flocks too. Anna Jones is a smart, sassy, sexy woman with insecurities stemming from her adolescences, who catches Drew's eye.

“I'm not going to say it was love at first sight. No, it was more like oh, hell-yes-please, I'll have that. With a helping of right-the-fuck-now on the side.”

While Anna's drawn to Drew like a moth to a flame, she truly can’t believe Drew wants her.

“It’s like he’s flicked a switch, leaving me in the dark, and he’s my light. He’s all I can see.”

And the irony of it all? Anna is all that Drew wants.

“Why won't you let me kiss you, Anna?"I can't breathe."Why, Anna?""It's too much," I rasp."Not when I want everything." He says it so deep and strong, a staking of a claim. "And I want everything with you, Anna.”

Sure there was drama and angst but it was not overdone, it was real. And while some may not understand or have problems with Anna, I got her. Being one with curves, I could totally relate and like Anna, I've dated someone in the spotlight and at times, I had to pinch myself because he was with me. Fortunately, while I have insecurities (who doesn’t?), I didn't react like Anna. Where I grabbed the bull by the horns and enjoyed every ounce of that ride,

Anna creates rules like “no kissing” and “no staying over” and does everything to push Drew away.

And Drew Baylor was just…

I’ve dated my own Drew Baylor. Men like this character do exist. Someone that so many revere and that has so much pressure and expectations placed on them, yet Drew is humble and honest to the core. He’s not afraid to be vulnerable and open with Anna, showering her with his love and praise openly and frequently. He wasn’t perfect but he was real and just amazing. Truly a beautiful character.

“You’ve destroyed me, Anna Jones.”

I thoroughly enjoyed this and am really looking forward to Gray’s story!
